Environment & Activities Casas Rurales Marcelino

Location:

Important information:

- Proximity to Portugal featuring major cities such as Portalegre (34km), Marvao (18km), Castelo de Vide (23km), Os Galego (9km), Lisbon (218km), Fatima Sanctuary (168km), among other interesting places.

Among the closest Spanish cities are:

- The Roman city of Merida with its unique museum and Roman theater.
- Badajoz border with Portugal and emblematic monuments such as Puerta Palma,
- Caceres, a UNESCO World Heritage Site, with lots of streets, palaces, museums and other attractions you will not ever see anywhere else.

- The environment - Valencia de Alcántara is about 12km - Jewish Quarter, 15th and 16th century majestic church of Our Lady of Rocamador declared monument of historical interest. The daughter of the Catholic Monarchs, Isabel, got married to the King of Portugal Manuel the Fortunate here. In August this event is celebrated wearing costumes in the fashion of the time.

Worthy of note - the cluster of villages surrounding the city, such as Alcorneo, Jola, Aceña de la Borrega, Ñas Lanchelas, El Pino, Puerto Roque, Las Casiñas, La Fontañera, and San Pedro de los Majarretes. All of them are really beautiful, but specially San Pedro because our Patron Saint, San Pedro de Alcántara took habits in its convent.

- Weather - Not like in Extremadura. The breeze sent by our Portuguese neighbours makes temperature decrease 4 or 5 degrees and its microclimate makes vegetables and fruits production abound everywhere.

- Cuisine - Diverse variety in each village featuring the "frite" of goat, chicken and rabbit, "chanfaina" of Extremadura, "buche" (also called "botillo"), Iberian ham and loin and other Portuguese foods such as as golden cod, grilled, and more.

Activities:

You can do multiple activities such as biking, four-wheel-drive vehicle routes or quad biking, hiking, fishing, big and small game, horse riding and carriage rides, watching birds and plants of different species, looking for fossils (easy to find), hearing the bellowing during the deer mating season, and many other activities the Association organizes periodically.
